Time Out History
My name is Caitlin Shetter and I am the creator of Time Out, a program to prevent teen pregnancy. I am a former member of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy's Youth Leadership Team. Five years ago I started Time Out to address the issue of teen pregnancy and lack of teen male involvement in my home state of Georgia. The program was first started at my high school and then spread to the rest of the county. It was a huge success and started getting attention from state officials. Both Senator Zell Miller and Governor Sunny Purdue wrote statements in support of Time Out. By having this website I hope to allow other states to share the information compiled in Time Out with their communities and schools. I hope that this information makes both coaches and students more aware of the issue of teen pregnancy and lowers teen pregnancy rates around the nation. In order to accomplish this I am asking for you, as a high school male sports coach, to participate in Time Out.

What is Time Out?

Time Out is a program to target teenage males with information and discussion on sex, and being a teen parent, by going through their role models, being you, the coach. Five out of every ten teenage males believe that sex is not a big deal and that of their partner gets pregnant is not their fault/problem. Programs in the past have all been geared towards female teenagers, but pregnancy takes more than just the female. Time Out provides teen males with statistics and information on the consequences of sex.

This site contains all of the information that I would like to have you take time to share with your male athletes. By taking a ''time out" and sharing this information with your athletes, you will be helping teen pregnancy prevention in not only your school, but in your community and nation. I hope Time Out helps you start an ongoing conversation with your student athletes.
