Getting the Facts Straight About the Age Differences Between Teen Girls and Their Partners

As a result of recent, highly-publicized studies, there is a growing belief that the partners of teen mothers are often older men, sometimes referred to as "predatory males." In 1995 and 1996, two studies did, in fact, report that there are considerable age differences between teen mothers and their partners. In 1997, a third study examining the same issue painted a somewhat different picture. It is important to stress that all three studies focused on the age differences between teen girls who have given birth and the baby's father; none examined the age differences between teen girls and their sexual partners or between pregnant teens and their partners!
